Arts & Culture A full schedule of visual and performing arts events awaits you in Rappahannock County throughout the year. On most Saturday nights during the fall, winter and spring seasons, The Theatre at Washington, Virginia, features professional music performances from classical concerts to jazz, contemporary and bluegrass. Take in a first-run feature film at the theatre on many Friday nights, sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts & the Community (RAAC). The organization also hosts events at the RAAC Community Theater in Washington, a center for a variety of local performing arts productions.
World renowned artists perform at Castleton Farm Theatre House, the private theatre of maestro Lorin Maazel, music director of the New York Philharmonic. Maazel and his wife, Dietlinde Turban-Maazel, host an annual music festival on their 550-acre farm in Castleton.
Kid Pan Alley, a nationally-recognized children's songwriting workshop based in Sperryville, takes its workshops to children around the country.
Enjoy live entertainment at The Blue Rock Inn and Griffin Tavern as well as spontaneous bluegrass "pickin parties" held at the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department in the summer months. Check the Calendar of Events for upcoming shows and performances.
