Things to Do Shenandoah National Park Shenandoah National Park General Information Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains and forming the western border of Rappahannock County, Shenandoah National Park offers a treasure to be explored. Enter the park 7 miles west of Sperryville on Route 211 at the Thornton Gap entrance. Skyline Drive, the park's signature feature, runs the length of the park. Seventy-five overlooks along the drive offer incredible views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Virginia Piedmont, including the rolling hills and rural landscape of Rappahannock County. Experience the beauty and quiet of the park's 500 miles of trails. The famous Appalachian Trail runs for 101 miles through the park. Programs led by rangers are available from spring through fall and include easy walks, challenging hikes and traditional campfire talks. ARAMARK, the park's concessionaire, offers a wide variety of activities including Virginia wine tasting, basket-making, night sky programs, quilting demonstrations and workshops. Lodging is available at Big Meadows Lodge and Skyland Resort. Or find your way east back down Route 211 and indulge your senses in the warm, friendly hospitality of one of Rappahannock's inns, B&Bs or cottages, enjoy the satisfying flavors of the cafés and restaurants or treat yourself to a massage at one of the wellness centers. nps.gov/shen 540.999.3500 (main) / 800.732.0911 (emergency)
