Things to Do Hunt Country Rappahannock County is home to Thornton Hill-FT Valley Hounds, located on Thornton Hill Farm in southern Rappahannock County. The farm has been the site of steeplechase races for more than 50 years; races are held in March and mid-September. The hounds hunt from September through March and can be seen throughout the county on one of 25 fixtures. The Rappahannock Hunt, whose hunting territory comprises land in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Madison counties, is also based in Rappahannock County. The Old Dominion Hounds round out the principal clubs. ODH sponsors two races in the spring, both at Ben Venue Farm in Rappahannock County. Old Dominion Hounds The country actively hunted is approximately 100 square miles of rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, mostly pasture with large woodlands, extensively paneled with coops, some natural rail fences and stone walls.
