Artemisia's Garden Inc.
One day workshops presented by gardening professionals. Hosted in our kitchen garden, topics include: small fruit culture and preparation, herbal dyepot, extending the harvest, beekeeping, and more. Plein Air Painting Lessons with Nora Harrington
Enjoy the scenery of Rappahannock County by spending several hours observing it while you paint on location. Local artist Nora Harrington offers private plein air painting lessons for individuals or up to four students at a time. All materials are provided. You take home a 12" x 16" oil painting on canvas - the perfect memento of your time spent outdoors in beautiful Rappahannock County.

Cookery Workshop: Canning
A hands-on "can along" workshop that will provide a full understanding of the basics of home canning to help you preserve the summer bounty. We'll go over safety tips and, although the focus will be on one or two recipes, we'll discuss other preparations and recipes for a particular vegetable or fruit. Everybody will can a jar from start to finish (and take it home). Topics (one topic per session) include: Peaches & Other Fruit; Tomatoes; Pickles (it's more than a cucumber); and Apples, Pears & Quince. Dates: July 19, July 28, August 9, August 18, August 23, August 25, September 8, September 27, October 5, October 13 -- Also by appointment with a minimum of 4 students.

The Herbal Dyepot
Using plants, wildflowers, nuts, berries, roots, and vegetables from the garden, students will learn how to coax vibrant, organic, lasting, harmonious colors from Mother Nature. Traditional techniques covered include shibori, kuzaki-zome and hapa-zome (i.e., tie-dye, grass and leaf-dyeing and plant pounding) to achieve sophisticated designs on silk or wool.
